Embroidery fairy

My husband gave me a sewing/embroidery machine last Christmas. I opened it up, ooohhed and aaahhed over it, and then put it away. Life was just to busy to get started on any projects just then.

In July I pulled it out and set up a sewing/embroidery area in my daughter's old room.

I decided that I was going to do a sewing project first so I headed to Joann's and had a blast picking out patterns and material.

I got started on a sweet baby girl dress and got about 50% finished when I kept getting the pull from the embroidery fairy.  Sorry Leslie the fairy won, hope KK can still fit into the dress by the time I finish it!

Sunday I headed to Joann's again to get supplies so I could get busy embroidering!

I started out by doing a test on a old piece of t-shirt. It looked OK but here's what I learned from it...

      1. Don't embroider with the stabilizer facing up,
          it goes on the underside
      2. Use at least 2 layers of stabilizer
      3. An old t-shirt is not the best material to use since
          it's kinda thin
      4. To trim the connecting thread as you go.

Next I headed to the internet to find out what kind of designs I could find.  This was tons of fun and I really had to restrain myself! Most of the designs were very reasonable in cost and most sites have lagniappe designs. The one I used to test was a freebie from GG Designs.

I ended up buying from Stitch on Time, Little Applique Factory  and Digi Dolls but I found many other sites I'll be buying from in the future!

Here are the main tools I am using while the machine is working.  Thank God my machine has a needle threader!  However, I still have trouble moving the thread around and holding it to trim so I use these wonderful little tongs to grab it!!

Here's what it looks like when the machine is hard at work...

Now on to the reveal--Drum roll please...finished products after only 1 full day of work.

The first is a little girl size small (6/6x) the designs are from Stitch on Time and Little Applique Factory.

The second is a little girl size extra small (4) the designs are from GG Designs and Digi Dolls.

Practically instant gratification!! I LOVE IT! Love having a finished gift in almost no time at all!
